"Did you mean to Talk like that...?"

"The game" in Episode 1 asks people to describe and make judgments on people by their voice alone. Implicit bias influences many of our day to day interacitons. By playing "the game" yourself, see if you can identify the specific sociolinguistic biases that you might not have known you have!

Listen to the sound samples below, collected by our chief field researcher, Amee Chafee. Would you hang out with this person socially? How would you describe them? What do you assume about them based on their voice alone?

After playing "the game", take some time to reflect on what about their voice led you to your assumptions. See if you can identify some of your own sociolinguistic implicit biases!
